Progress update: May 2020 – part 2

Geez Louise… a lot has happened since our last update. From our original mod being taken down to exciting new content and a lot of support from the community. Let’s start with the negative and work our way up to the positive, shall we?

Roughly a week ago, we were shocked to find out that a DMCA claim was filed against our FIA WEC mod. Although we always knew we were creating copyrighted content, we were under the impression that we were fine releasing it, as long as we weren’t selling it or making any profit from it. We were wrong, so we needed to change things up. We made the required changes and released a new version of the mod that is free of the copyright issues.

A few days later, Studio 397 released the Ferrari 488 GTE. Although we spent a lot of time adjusting and perfecting our version, we made the decision to switch to Studio 397’s version as we would have never been able to reach the same quality as the S397 car.

After 2 months of development, testing and adjusting, we were finally ready to release V1.00 of the mod. Another milestone reached!

We will still need to address a few issues that came to light after the release of V1.00. There is still an issue with the rolling starts at Spa-Francorchamps, which we will release a hotfix for as soon as possible. COTA also has a strange bug where the order of the cars looks fine on the track, but the standings are completely off. We will need some time to investigate this and find a solution. The third issue we’re still investigating is the disappearance of the S397 LMP2 and GTE cars in multiplayer mode when you are subscribed to our mod. We are trying to get in touch with Studio 397 on this matter, but no success yet.

Not having to work for roughly 2 months because of the Corona virus, I have been able to work on our mods almost full time. However, things are starting up again here in the Netherlands, which means I’ll be back at work as well. That doesn’t mean we’ll stop working on our mods, but progress will be slower. We have a few exciting new features ahead of us that I want to share with you.

First off, we are working on the conversion of Prototype_’s Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit from Assetto Corsa to rFactor 2. As soon as this is done, we will include it in our mod. We will also be adding Interlagos and Monza to the mod in the next month or so.

Of course you’ll want to know what our progress is on the new car models. We are very busy with the creation of the Ginetta G60-LT-P1 and we have progressed to the point where we can start porting the model into the game. After that, we still have to do the texturing, skins and, most importantly, the physics. That final part will be the most time-consuming, so don’t expect any release this month.

To top things off, we are looking into creating our own league system. We are planning a few things: first off, we will run a league with the Global Endurance Cup. We still have to work out the details, so stay tuned for the official announcement in the next week or two.

Our long term vision is the creation of a league system with different tiers. To achieve this, we’ll need to create a Le M… Oops, I mean Endurance Series mod, which we are working on right now. It will contain both the European and Asian series with all appropriate categories: LMP2, LMP3, GTE and GT (GT3). This addition to our projects will allow us to have a league system with multiple tiers, allowing participants to work their way up from GT to LMGTE Pro and from LMP3 to LMP1.

To make all of these ideas and visions work, we will need reinforcements to our team. We would really like to add a team member who knows their way around car physics and some members to help us manage and run the league system. However, we welcome any help we can get with open arms, so if you want to help us improve and create our content, send an email to info@globalendurancemodding.com with your skills, approximate available time per month and your motivation.
